SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
Don't get confused and in a tizzy, there is only one point to social media marketing. (Being on facebook, Bebo, MySpace, Twitter etc).
The first is that, by joing groups of similar interests i.e. those whose actually pages contain content that is relevant to your own products and services, then you can soon build up a network of intertwining links.
It's much like joining forums but without the work involved of actually posting replies.
These sites will not give you backlinks, as they all have no-follow tags but, choose your username correctly and, given the power of these sites, you could well see yourself getting on the first page of Google.
Building up a network also drives targeted traffic to your site and, although these people may not be buyers, more traffic equals a better Alexa rank which, in turn leads to better rankings.
To be honest, we haven't got the time to do Social Media Marketing for anyone but existing clients but, as part of the entire SEO Project, it fits in quite nicely. It's far better than blogging (as of March 2009)
